Ambassadors of the Sun

When I chaperoned Chip, Kevin and Big Daddy to Florida last week for our coverage of spring training, the ground was covered in snow and temperatures were in the 30’s. When we arrived in Florida the temperatures were in the 50’s and 60’s with clear skies everday.
On the first day of our trip, Kevin and I were in the press box at Joker Marchant Stadium, while Chip and Big daddy worked the stands. It was in the press box that Kevin and I met Jim Hendricks who was a longtime sport media person in Detroit and still does sports in Lakeland. He passed on some great stories to us, one of which included his start as a Tiger bat boy in 1951 and all the great players he had interaction with.

Playoff Football

Posted on 16th January 2010 by John in Acting, Sports talk

Is everybody as ready for playoff football as I am? The superbowl is just weeks away with lots going on. The Sports Talk 60 crew will be in Southgate on Jan 30th for a pre Superbowl bash that will benefit a charity.

At the “No Child Without a Christmas” fundraiser we held December 3rd at “Jake’s Again”, a Sports Talk 60 package was auctioned off that included a day in the studio with the Sports Talk 60 crew. We are looking forward to working with the winner of our “in studio” guest spot on January 22nd.

I haven’t mentioned my career as an actor recently, so I’ll just let you know that I am polishing up my acting by taking a workshop in Royal Oak that features Bill Marinella from Los Angeles. This workshop is filled with some talented people and Bill is working us hard and giving us the benefit of his great knowledge in this field. I just cant believe he chose the playoff’s to do it in; those Californians.

My Acting Life

Posted on 20th November 2009 by John in Acting

Last week I filmed another episode for Lee Martins, “Midnight Hour”. The episode, called “Diary of the Mantis”, wrapped up shooting on Sunday evening. It’s my second episode for the horror series that airs on Comcast.
Also, I was in a commerical for a Credit Union on Wednesday which should air during the winter olympics. So it was a full week for my life as an actor.
This Saturday don’t forget that Chip and I will beat “Jakes Again”, in Wayne, for the Michigan/OSU game. This is a critical game for Michigan. Hope to see ya there!

Sports Talk while on Vacation

Posted on 5th October 2008 by John in Acting, Sports talk, Uncategorized

Here we are, my wife Alley & me, in Petoskey, MI; so far North in lower Michigan that it is just barely West. Our lastest travels have taken us through Boyne Falls and the “tunnel of trees” North of Harbor Springs on M-119. We are just taking a weekend to getaway from the hustle and bustle of busy schedules and crowded city life.
For everyone who was listening to our broadcast on Friday, I hope you liked our special panel. If you get a chance, try to catch us at the MVP Sports Grill in Romulus For a “Monday Night Football” gig this coming Monday.
Ciao.

Acting for the Weather Channel

Posted on 19th September 2008 by John in Acting

I have an acting part in a Weather Channel program called, “When Weather Changes History”. I play the part of Major Charles Sweeney who flew the B-29 Superfortress that dropped the atomic bomb on Nagasaki. The director of the shoot said everything looks good and they are waiting for an air date. As soon as I find out when it airs I will let you know, because I want you to check it out and tell me what you think.

Actors 411

Posted on 7th September 2008 by John in Acting

Hey gang! Today I took an actors workshop entitled “actors 411″. The class was taught at Specs Howard’s by the well known casting director Kathy McKee. Kathy worked in Hollywood during the 60’s and 70’s as an actress. She was actually discovered by Sammy Davis Jr. and worked with his nightclub show as mistress of ceremonies. During hiatus from the show, Kathy spent time studying acting and making appearances on television. I thought it was a great workshop since I also dabble in acting. Some of the stories of the infamous Rat pack were awesome. There were a lot of noob actors in the workshop and just a few of us had previous camera work. It was inspiring to be sort of a mentor to a few of our future entertainers. Well, as they say, “that’s showbiz”. (more…)
