If you knew these guys were gonna ask for big salaries in a few years why did they sign their contracts to expire around the same time? I think the idea was to build a winning team then and hope for the best thru arbitration and contract negotiations. Lets see..... '06 second place and a trip to the World Series, '07...dismal season... '08 no one even wants to talk about and '09 was the year it got away. Why not let Cabrera and Verlander go now to a team where they have a chance of winning the BIG GAME? Maybe getting rid of our minor league top prospects a few years ago was a bad idea after all.
