Detroit Ignition Starts Season

Posted on 11th December 2008 by John in Sports talk
Do all you Indoor soccer fans realize that the Detroit Ignition starts their new season saturday, against the Milwaukee Wave. The newly formed XSL (Xtreme Soccer League) an interactive, year-round operation debuting in four cities — Milwaukee, Chicago, Detroit and Newark will begin this year. Our own Detroit Ignition is part of it since the teams from MISL went to the new indoor leagues: NISL, PASL-PRO and the XSL. There is a new twist from the normal playoff format. The team with the best won/lost record will win it all. There will be no playoffs. It means a mediocre team cannot make the playoffs and beat the best. This year you have to be the best team of the season to win it all. That means every win is critical. A team cannot use some games just to get into a ryhthm. They need to be firing on all cylinders from the first game to the last.
So, soccer fans in Detroit unite, get out to The Compuware Arena and support the Ignition. The first home game will be Saturday, December 20th at 7:35 pm.
Today I visited the Ignition and spoke to #14 Worteh Sampson and the goal keeper #24 Danny Waltman. Both players are ready for the season opener and glad that soccer has stayed here in the Motor city. So kick in fans and be the 6th man.
